As I've been researching immigration, I've noticed different recurring conflicts. Border control has interesting pros and cons. Some people say tightening border control will do little if we don't stop the high demand for cheap labor; as long as we have a demand for cheap labor, we will have illegal immigrants. I agree with this assessment to a degree; however, there will be a decrease of illegal immigrants if we tighten up our borders. Tightening up the borders might not take care of all the illegal immigrants, but it will reduce them.
A new approach to this illegal immigrant issue that is in hot debate right now is the "real ID" issue. The proposed legislation suggests we make driver's licenses harder to obtain. Supporters say this policy will reduce illegal immigrant’s functionality in the country. If we make these "real ID" cards necessary, only people that have these cards will be able to be hired. The opponents against this legislation say it is like a national card. It is crossing the line into too much control into the lives of citizens. Soon the government will be able to track its citizen's movement around the country. This is too much power for the government to have. They cite Nazi Germany.

You are right about this. "Tightening up the borders" may help to solve the problem. The government can force that happen by building fences along borders and have more immigration laws. They can do that, but it is not easy.
Illegal immigrants in some states play some important role in economics and society. They build up their own communities, establish their own towns, and keep their own culture. The fact is true that illegal immigrants create cheap labor. Business managers want to make more profit for their business, so they hire illegal labors to reduce the cost of taxes and wages for employees. If the government shut down these illegal labors, some business may or will loose their money big time. Because business men have a strong voice in some states, so they don’t want this happen. And also, some legal immigrants who became US citizens want to help their native fellow people to be in US. If government takes all the illegal immigrants out of the country, some states may loose some of their representatives in Congress and some taxes. The power of consumption will be reduced at a significant level. This issue relates to national and international issues including freedom, trade agreements, money talks, human rights, incomes, taxes, and much more.
Humans are complicated. Different people have different ideas. Some like to have ID control rule, and some don’t. They can always find good reasons for their action regardless of right or wrong.
